5 Best New Songs of the Week – 02/07/2017

Here we go again, five new songs for your Sunday! Pared down to the absolute minimum, just the music and hardly any words. Also, see this recent post on Everett True’s blog for much more music recommendations.

Deerhoof – I Will Spite Survive (ft. Jenn Wasner)

Jeez, there’s only one label you need to follow these days and that’s Joyful Noise Recordings. ‘I Will Spite Survive’ is an ace track by Deerhoof off their upcoming album Mountain Moves, out 9/8/2017. Intriguing lyrics too: “You could outlive your executioners / But you’re on TV you’re expendable”.

Comedienne – Hideout

Meant to feature this last week – from Parenthetical Girls’ Zac Pennington. Kind of simultaneous Patrick Wolf and Mercury Rev vibes. Lovely dramatic gentle track. Hope there’s more on its way.

Caroline Says – Winter Is Cold

A nice quiet track, almost non-descript like the landscape in the album cover. Off their debut album 50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can’t Be Wrong out via Western Vinyl on 4 August.

Basement Revolver – Tree Trunk

Another quiet one. Not as good as their previous single, but still distant and gritty, making me think of Mazzy Star and that’s always a good thing. The EP ‘Agatha’ is released on Fear of Missing Out Records on 21 July.

Surfer Rosie – Nerves

This screams Pixies from all corners. The band name, of course, is a barely disguised reference, and the band started a Pixies cover band for a Halloween house show once. Their EP EP 1 is out 21 July via Good Cheer Records.
